Reading, Tajweed and Hifz: what is the difference?
These subjects answer different learning needs. Reading connects the letters and marks on the page. Tajweed focuses on how the recitation is pronounced. Hifz adds memorisation and an ongoing revision routine.
A learner may need more than one of these skills, but the first task should be manageable. For example, a child who guesses unfamiliar joined letters needs help decoding the text before being asked to memorise a long passage.
