Before the appointment

Confirm the date, local time and joining platform with admissions. Test your microphone and speaker, place the device on a stable surface and keep the relevant book or material nearby. If a child is attending, use the parent or guardian contact details for arrangements.

Write a short note about previous learning. Mention whether the learner recognises letters, reads unfamiliar words or mainly recites passages from memory. An honest starting point helps the teacher choose a suitable task. There is no need to learn an impressive new passage just for the trial.

During the first reading

Try the task at a comfortable pace. If you are unsure, say which part is unclear rather than guessing silently. A beginner may work on recognition instead of reading a complete passage. A returning reader might show one familiar line and another suitable line they have not rehearsed.

Notice what happens after a difficulty appears. Does the teacher explain the correction clearly, demonstrate it and give you another attempt? The useful question is whether you understand what to do differently, not how many terms or pages are covered.

For parents observing a child

Agree with admissions how a parent can be involved in the lesson. Stay available to help with the device, but give the child time to answer. Supplying every answer can make it harder for the teacher to understand what the child can do independently.

Watch for a manageable task and understandable instructions. If attention drops, discuss the format and duration instead of treating it as a failure. Ask what you should support at home and what should be left for the teacher to correct.

Questions to ask before finishing

Ask: What should we work on first? Which material will we use? What is one useful practice task? How will we know when to move on? These questions turn a friendly introduction into a clearer learning plan.

Then confirm the practical details: proposed teacher, teaching language, available schedule, lesson duration, fee and cancellation arrangements. If you have requested a female teacher or a particular time, check that the request has actually been confirmed.

Review the trial afterwards

Make three short notes: something that became clearer, something still uncertain and the next step discussed. A child may explain the task differently from an adult, so ask them to show one example in their own way. Avoid deciding only on whether the trial felt fast or entertaining.

If the fit is unclear, raise the specific issue with admissions before committing. The aim is a workable arrangement and a learning task you understand. See the teacher information and pricing pages, then request your trial when you are ready.
