Begin with a useful distinction

Begin by separating script recognition from familiarity with recitation. You may know the sound of a passage without being able to read its words independently. Equally, you might recognise letters slowly but accurately. Neither is a reason for embarrassment. Try a small suitable example and describe where you hesitate. That information is more useful for placement than saying only that you are a beginner.

Make the next step practical

Choose one main learning task. If joined letters are uncertain, a structured foundation such as Noorani Qaida may help. If the script is manageable but pronunciation needs attention, the next task may be different. Avoid opening several unrelated courses or apps in the hope that more material will automatically solve the difficulty. A clear explanation followed by a manageable attempt provides better information about what helps.

Notice what the experience tells you

Ask the teacher to show what practice should look like. You should know the material, the amount and the feature to notice. Keep uncertainty in a short note instead of repeatedly guessing a sound. An approved listening example can support your work, but it cannot hear your own reading. Live feedback helps determine whether the attempt matches the intended correction.

Keep the plan clear enough to return to

Make restarting easy. Put the current text and lesson note together, choose a realistic practice window and begin with the agreed task. If you miss a day, return to it rather than inventing a large catch-up target. Review progress through small observations: recognising a fresh combination, asking a clearer question or applying a correction elsewhere. Those changes matter even before a whole book is finished.

A simple way to describe your starting point

Instead of saying only that you are bad at reading, describe a small example. You might recognise separate letters but lose track when they join, or read a familiar passage while finding a new one much harder. Those observations give a teacher something useful to investigate.

Bring the book or material you have used and explain whether you usually read independently, repeat after a recording or rely on memory. None of those details needs to be hidden. During the trial, ask what would make the next attempt clearer. Leave with one task you can describe in ordinary language. That is a more useful beginning than choosing a large collection of resources without knowing which difficulty each is meant to address.
